Best Romantic Couples of All Time

Hmm…I am feeling all warm and fuzzy and must seize this moment to write in a very cheesy entry.

1. Elizabeth Bennett and William Darcy

This tops the list ofcourse. No discussion necessary.

2. Catherine and Heathcliff

They are one couple who deserved a happy ending and never got it. Emily Bronte’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ is written in a very well..insipid manner, but her characters make up for it. Heathcliff takes your breath away. They would have topped my list if they had had a happy ending.

3.Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler 0_22_022207_clark_gable

Theres a reason why these two have appeared in every “best” list there is and I don’t think they are ever going to be dethroned. In fact, I think I am going to watch ‘Gone with the Wind’ again..

4. Francisco/Rearden/John Galt and Dagny Taggart

yep, all three of them..there’s really no way to chose because they are all perfect. I think Ayn Rand is the only author who makes loving three different guys so, erm, natural. Dagny chooses Galt in the end, but Francisco and Rearden are too good to be forgotten.

5. Rick Blaine and Ilsa Lund

Have I mentioned how much I love Humphrey Bogart? I think in all his movies he was a lot like who he was in real life. He is sarcastic, witty and unrepentant and still manages to be adorable. ‘Casablanca’ was one of the most beautiful movies ever made.

6. Eliza Doolitle and Henry Higgins

‘My Fair Lady’ is one of the funniest, cutest movies I have ever seen. Audrey Hepburn was hilarious, you have to watch it if you haven’t already.

7. Who ever these two are

I don’t know who they are, I don’t know their story but I feel their story must have been epic. What a great photograph, 1945 V-J Day –they might not be alive but it would be great if someone could track them down.

8. Noah Calhoun and Allie Hamilton

from the ‘Notebook’. I don’t know how Nicholas Sparks writes these amazing stories time after time. But they are all great.

9. Ross and Rachelrossandrachel

Rachel: How do you expect me to grow, if you wont let me blow.
Ross: You, you know I...I don't have a...have a problem with that.

hahahaha, they had no right to cancel that show!

10. Giselle and Robert Philip

from ‘Enchanted’, that was such a surprising fun movie, I thought I was going to get bored, but it made me laugh so very hard.

Tell me if I missed some (unless they are that infamous twilight couple).

  1. I love your list! However, some of the descriptions were spoilers if you've never read the book or watched the movie (i.e. Wuthering Heights).

As for #7, the story I've heard is that the sailor didn't even know that girl, he just grabbed her and laid that iconic kiss on her. A great romance, but certainly a short-lived one.

    Keep the great posts coming!

  3. Heyy.. tatz a nice post!! :) Apart from those mentioned, another couple I loved was Harry and Sally. And seriously, they shouldn't have stopped F.R.I.E.N.D.S with the 10th season. It was one of the best shows ever!!

  6. its a good book, but classical writers take forever to get to the point. watch the movie if you are an impatient reader.

    The most wonderful couple.
